Fairmount Fire’s Training Division is responsible for coordinating and providing training classes in several areas. This includes the initial recruit academy, continuing education, and professional development. The Department’s roster includes accomplished instructors in Firefighting techniques, Hazardous Materials, Emergency Medical Services, Wildland Firefighting and Incident Command.
Fairmount Fire also provides training for fire departments throughout the state, as well as agencies outside the fire service. The Department is an active participant in the State Division of Fire Safety’s voluntary certification program, and provides proctors for State Certification testing on request. Department personnel are: involved in reviewing and amending the firefighter Job Performance Requirements for Firefighter, Fire Officer, Fire Instructor and First Responder certification levels; Adjunct Instructors in the degree programs at Red Rocks and Arapahoe County Community Colleges. Members also review and approve text material provided by publishers for use at Fire Training Academies throughout the nation. Fairmount Fire is a major sponsor of, and provides instructors for the Colorado Wildland Fire and Incident Management Academy.
Fairmount Fire is a state approved EMS Training Center to the Paramedic level, and cooperates with area EMS agencies to provide in-house and outside training and testing under the guidance of the Training Captain. See below for more information.
In addition, Fairmount Fire provides safety-related training to schools and businesses within the district. Firefighters instruct classes in Injury Prevention, Hazardous Materials Recognition and Response, First Aid and CPR, Fire Prevention, Fire Extinguisher use and Emergency Preparedness. These courses are generally provided at a materials-only cost to the business.
